⚔️ Civilization VII Gameplay and Strategy Guide
Comprehensive coverage of every leader, civilization, and game system, including all content through the Hall of History Collection.
👋 About This Guide
Civilization VII is a big game. Three Ages, 50 civilizations, 38 leaders, and a web of systems – Happiness feeding Celebrations, adjacency feeding Specialists, Influence feeding almost everything – that reward you enormously once you see how they connect, and quietly punish you until you do. This guide exists to make those connections visible.
It is written for anyone who wants to play better and enjoy it more. That includes the new player who has just finished a first Antiquity Age and wants to know which decisions actually mattered; the returning veteran recalibrating after a series entry that changed more than any before it; and the player mid-turn at 11pm who needs one number, fast.
Every page is written to stand on its own, so following a cross-reference is never a detour into something you needed to read first – jump around freely. This guide was written with AI assistance and its illustrations were AI-generated; see the Colophon for how it was made and checked.
Now go win something.
🧭 How to read this guide
If you are new to Civilization VII, read Start Here and How the Game Works in order. They are sequenced so each page only assumes what came before it. Then choose a mechanics-first setup from Strategic Combinations, or a story-first run from Historical Combinations.
If you are a returning Civ veteran, start with The Three Ages – the Age structure, the Triumph system, and dominance-based victory are the three things that will surprise you most – then skim Happiness, Governments & Celebrations, which is the system that repays attention most.
🖱️ Leader and civilization names are clickable. Wherever a leader or civilization is recommended, its name opens that entry's full card without leaving the page. They are styled as ordinary text rather than links – the cursor is the only cue – so the prose stays readable.
If you are mid-game and need a fact fast, go straight to the Appendices. Every reference table in the guide is either there or linked from there – and if a term is unfamiliar, the Glossary defines it.
Callouts used throughout:
– an actionable edge you can apply this turn.
– the underlying principle a system is built on.
– a trap, a hard limit, or a decision you cannot reverse.
